From Research to Production

The Day was well attended, with representatives from Swedish (and some international) industries, universities/institutes, and funding agencies.

Roland Rupp from Infineon, Germany, presented a European aspect of SiC technology exploitation, where SiC devices are already on the market on a commercial basis. Representatives from Okmetic AB, Intrinsic Semiconductor AB, Acreo AB and KTH then presented the current status of SiC technology in the Kista-Linköping area, and the move towards SiC material and device production that is already taking place. Okmetic already produces and sells SiC substrates, and both Okmetic and Acreo offer SiC epitaxy on a commercial basis. Intrinsic Semiconductor AB (previously AMDS AB) is currently building up its resources for future production of principally RF SiC devices.

Following previous calls for a national strategy for exploitation of SiC technology, Vinnova has initiated an investigation into the SiC infrastructure existing in Sweden. Esbjörn Hogmark and Bo Bängtsson presented the status of this, which led to a lively discussion on how exploitation could be achieved in practice. The SiC expertise and infrastructure that exists in the Kista-Linköping and other areas of Sweden provides a good base for further exploitation of this technology.
